OSWALD CHESTERFIELD COBBLEPOT
The Penguin
He thinks his educated airs, those family shares
Will protect him, that you will respect him
He moves in circles of friends who just pretend that they like him
He does the same to them and when you put it all together - There's the model of a charmless man
And won't you think I'm pretty
name;;An English, German, Anglo-saxon name. Oswald is derived from the old English elements- Os = “god”, weald = “rule”. In other words- Divinely powerful (Oh hell yes he is! Mmm. XD )
nickname;;The Penguin – naturally given because of his appearance. Other nicknames consist of ‘Pengy’, ‘Ozzy’, and ‘Oz’. He hates them all.
age;; 41
date of birth;; 12-24-1968
gender;; Male
occupation;; Restaurateur / Racketeer
sexual orientation;; Heterosexual
When I'm standing top the bright lit city
hair;; Black
eyes;; Brown (Hey, it looks good on the Devito version! Otherwise I'd say blue.)
height;; 5 feet
weight;; around 280-300 lbs
build;; Short and rotund. Although he’s not helplessly out of shape unlike most his size, he is still no match against Batman’s strength. He can, however, run decently enough. It’s in a criminal’s job description.
piercings;; None; too unsophisticated.
tattoos;; None; same reason.
style;; It’s not hard to see Oswald can be a stuck-up snob. His attire consists of finely tailored tuxedos. From beaver-pelt top hats, finely cut and tailored clothing to fit his portly figure, pinstriped pants, to his shiny, polished dress shoes, he gives the air of a very posh individual. He refuses to be caught dead in anything that could be found on a commoner.
His physical appearance is another matter all together. Some sneer that perhaps he dresses so earnestly because he’s trying to cover up his ugliness. His nose is abnormally long; to further resemble the look of a bird. His chubby body causes him to break into the habit of waddling like a penguin himself. His hands, though manicured nicely, are flipper-like due to lobster claw deformity.
And I'll take your hand and pick you up
favorites;;
Birds: Oswald has always been most content around his birds, even at a young age. They probably are the only things in his life that truly make him happy.
Fish, Caviar, and other Delicacies: It’s part of his posh nature that he enjoys the finer things in life. Practically anyone can woo his senses by offering him a plate of sushi and caviar.
Catwoman. This one is obvious and everybody that sees him in the same room with the feline knows it. He practically drools over her. Cat and women mixed in one, luscious, package. What could be more tempting than that?
Women. Cobblepot can’t get enough of their nature. Their sensual lips, inquisitive eyes, long luscious legs, fully shaped breasts … he’s enraptured. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to like him back.
Wealth. Oswald is a victim of greed. Gems, jewels, expensive trinkets and baubles – you name it. He can’t get enough of wealth, be it coin, paper, or diamonds. Any sort of well puts a maniac gleam in his eyes.
hates;;
Batman. It’s no wonder why Batman is on the top of his hate list. The Batman proved to be a pain in Cobblepot’s ass from the very beginning. The bird would honestly be better off if he could rid himself of the winged freak once and for all. He ruins business and quite frankly, Oswald Cobblepot’s entire life. Not to mention the dreadful competition over Catwoman’s heart. Oh yes, Batjerk has to die.
Joker: The man has no dignity, no sophistication, and no style! At least, not one that fits Cobblepot’s bill. The crazed clown drives Cobblepot up the wall – Every. Single. Time. His incessant jokes, pranks, and laughter do not amuse Penguin… and probably never will.
Bruce Wayne: Cobblepot hates the fact that the millionaire gets all of the media’s attention. In truth – he wants to be Bruce Wayne. He wants to be the handsome, wealthy playboy with women draped over his arms. Nothing stirs up the jealousy vibes more than seeing everything Wayne has that he lacks.
Commoners/Poverty: He wants no part in the ragged ruffians roaming the streets of Gotham. He snubs his nose at any filth, liking to keep his fine tuxedos out of way of dust and grime. The very idea of poverty repels him.
Children: They’re annoying and make him uncomfortable. Enough said.
Nicknames: Cobblepot never liked nor grew used to being called “The Penguin” by his school peers, but unfortunately the name stuck. Quite frankly, he finds nicknames to be rude and disrespectful. Maybe that’s what causes The Joker to drive him up the wall so easily.
Arkham: Who would like this place? (Well, besides a mad-man like Joker.) Although Penguin isn’t entirely crazy, every once in a while a rookie cop will get the idea that he’s Arkham material. This pisses him off. He is NOT crazy. He’s perfectly sane.
Scarecrow: The man is irritating, not to mention an expert at grinding Ozzy’s nerves whenever he acts superior. Furthermore, the doctor makes him nervous toting around that fear toxin. Not, of course, that Oswald is afraid of anything… -shifty eyes-
strengths;;
-Intelligence: He’s gotten through school and a bit of college. He knows what he’s doing and isn’t a common thug. Although he’s not as brilliant as the Riddler, he has his moments, and likes to use pompous words to show it.
-Birds; he has a way with them and isn’t afraid to use it. If he can get them to work with him, and against his enemies, he’ll do it. Not to mention that working with them is a pleasure to begin with.
-Power/Information: Oswald knows where to reside in business. He even has Batman come to him to gain information… not that he wants that of course. But if it’s a way to keep Batman from beating him up, he’ll do it.
-Charm; many people underestimate the charm he can spin. Not only is he dressed the part, but his gentlemanly skills aren’t lacking. Although temper gets in the way, when he learns to tap it, he can be convincingly manipulative in pleasantries.
weaknesses;;
Build; his portly physique can get in the way. He’s in shape enough to keep up with the criminal life, but still lacks the superior ninja skills that Batman has.
Emotions - Any kind of emotion always gets the best of him. When he’s angry – he practically throws temper tantrums. He doesn’t acknowledge the fact that he might have fears like everyone else – which in turn only causes problems in the long run. As for that gooey, ridiculous emotion called love- well, must I say more?
Catwoman; this one is inevitable when you have a ridiculous crush. Whether it’s her rebuttal against his advances that causes his heart to bruise (yes, he has a heart), or the Batman ‘getting some’ while Oswald stands there forlorn… Catwoman causes delicate ground.
Superstitions: Like most criminals, Penguin can be very superstitious. If his imagination is pushed enough, he could likely turn tail and run. He’ll deny it later though.
Batman: Much as he’d like to deny it, Batman is better than him in a fight. Cobblepot would prefer to avoid a brawl, as most likely he’ll come out with a broken nose. That, and the vigilant is just intimidating.
Vampires. He’s superstitious. They’re bat-like and can suck your blood. What’s not to fear?
quirks/habits;;
- Using umbrellas for weapons.
-Being perverted
-Being a pompous ass … on purpose.
- Acting like a gentleman and using charm to get his way
- Nervous smoking habits
-He’ll only get drunk on a good wine.
-Avoiding poverty and the homeless as much as possible.
goals/dreams;;
-To rid himself of Batman forever.
-To be the richest man in Gotham. Then again, maybe the richest man, period.
-To be as well-known as Bruce Wayne -and respected triple-fold.
-To win Catwoman’s heart. Could you really blame him? All he wants is a little loving back!
-To best all those that have mocked him or made his life miserable.
overall personality;; Oswald Cobblepot is a man of expensive taste. Anything that is expensive or valuable is sure to catch his interest. If he had his way, he’d be the richest and most powerful man in Gotham, with woman toting after his every whim. But unfortunately, you can’t always what you want. Instead, Cobblepot gains his wealth through racketeering and in the process gets a freak dressed like a bat riding his ass. As for the women…. Well, they might be draped all over his lap, but isn’t because of his good looks. He tries to ignore the fact that the only reason women even look in his direction is because he always has a nice wad of cash in his pockets. Besides, the only woman he’s truly interested in is Catwoman. You can see how well that one’s going.
Unfortunately, due to his lack of fortune, he’s a rather crabby individual. He’s usually very grumpy and has frequent temper tantrums when his anger gets the best of him. Most know it and use this against him. Many things tend to set him off, especially when he’s being mocked. He craves respect almost as much as expensive baubles and nothing seems more disrespectful than the use of nicknames. Formality is key. Which is why Joker always manages to ruffle his feathers. The man has no class whatsoever.
And keep you there so you can see

history;;
When Oswald Cobblepot was little, his father died from pneumonia, which in effect caused his mother to be come overbearingly protective. The result was forcing young Cobblepot not to leave the house without his umbrella … ever. This caused quite an image when Oswald would arrive at school decked out in a full tuxedo, tophat, and toting around an umbrella. If this wasn’t enough, his odd appearance did the trick. Because of his short stature, tubby physique and bird-like qualities, bullies labeled him “The Penguin” and made his life miserable.
However, Cobblepot found his happiness through his mother’s pet shop. He grew close to the birds there, and learned to turn to them for comfort. With his birds, he felt as though he wasn’t alone anymore. Unfortunately, word of this soon spread to the school. To Oswald’s despair, one night the pet shop was broken into… and burnt down. All his precious birds were murdered. That was what set the final straw. Filled with grief and rage, Oswald vowed to get back all those that caused him trouble, and accepted the name “Penguin” in spite.
But there is an alternate story that contradicts the one above. Others claim it wasn’t the bullies that murdered his birds, but Oswald himself. So distraught by the horrible things that others did to him at school, one day he came home to his birds to seek comfort. One unfortunate bird made the mistake of biting his hand. So overcome with rage, he forgot his strength and bashed the life out of his babies with his own umbrella. When he came back to his senses… the deed was done.
As a young adult, Cobblepot was given the pet shop when his mother died, but the debt was so high it was nigh impossible to keep it. His family had lost its wealth, so he sought ways to regain it – through illegal measures. He took the name of The Penguin for his advantage and created the Iceberg Lounge. His restaurant grew famous, and so did his reputation of a racketeer and nemesis of the Batman.
Throughout the years, his business grew… and so did his connections. Every once in a while he would team up with some of Gotham’s ‘finest’ … Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman. Although he’s notorious for criminal crimes, Batman grudgingly tolerates him for the most part so long as he willingly relays information on crimes taking place in the city. Many times over Penguin claims to go ‘clean’ but he doesn’t stay that way for long.

example;;
Cobblepot hadn't been himself lately. Of course, nobody really was, not with all the mayhem the newest villain put upon Gotham.
Indeed, while at his Iceberg Lounge, his employees noticed the slight change in his attitude. He seemed grumpier than usual but at times he'd grow silent and broody. At first none of them could figure out what was causing such nature, but after awhile they began to notice his silences followed after a news report, or a conversation at one of the dining tables. What these two had in common was the fact the topics centered on either Batman... or Joker.
Not only was his personality askew, but his habits were as well. He locked himself up in his penthouse a good deal of time, instead of flaunting about with women clinging on to his arm or trying his hand at poker. Furthermore, instead of taking off in a limo, he chose to walk these days - much to the thrill of his chauffeur.
That was why, when he left the Lounge tonight on foot, nobody questioned him (not that they would) or raised their eyebrows at each other. Lately, his odd nature was the norm, but it was still speculated as to what was going on in the bird's mind.
Despite the fact Oswald was fully capable of taking care of himself, he did look rather vulnerable to be out on the dark streets in the attire he chose. Any desperate thief would love to get their greasy paws in his pockets, but they'd be sorely mistaken to try it. He WAS, after all, a 'villain' of Gotham. He'd had a few run-ins with the Bat, so he could certainly take on a petty thief.
Speaking of the Bat... Oswald Cobblepot's thoughts shifted once again to what he'd been thinking about lately. He hadn't had much problem with the Bat lately, seeing as how the winged creature was so caught up in the problems Joker had caused. Indeed, Oswald felt almost obliged to the madman, even though he'd never met him. The crazy clown had helped keep the winged freak out of his hair, and Oswald was quite content with that.
Indeed, he was a little mystified with Joker, and curious. The man had caused the Bat to go running around in circles like a headless chicken- something of which that impressed Penguin. True, the dark thoughts that surrounded Oswald these days had lingered over the idea of meeting the clown- however dangerous the stories claimed him to be. But Oswald didn`t have a death wish, nor was he stupid. No, instead, he figured the next time Joker happened to be imprisoned at Arkham, however short that time would be, he would try to visit him. That way, the man would be behind bars and Oswald wouldn`t have to worry about having a smile cut into his face.
Oswald couldn`t deny the fact he was a little impressed by the maniac. In fact, he had begun to see the brilliance of the crazy`s schemes. Part of that worried him. He liked to think he was a man of cool-headedness. He wasn`t crazy, unlike all the others. However, lately there HAD been speculation that he WAS crazy. Speculations that had made him bristle with irritation. But alas, that was beside the point. He had Joker on the mind, and a part of him felt the need to talk to the man, crazy or not.
