HARVEY DENT
two-face
two halves are equal
a cross between two evils
it's not an enviable lot
but if you listen
you'll learn to hear the difference
between the halves and the half nots
you'll notice something funny
name;; Harvey Dent
(Harvey means "eager for battle/strong and worthy". Interesting.)
nickname;; Harv is just a simple shortening of Harvey; and of course the much more infamous nickname Two-Face comes from his physical appearance and his unfortunate case of DID/MPD. Previously, he also held the nickname of "Apollo" for his good looks, charm, and apparent clean background.
age;; 43
date of birth;; 2/2/1966 (hurhur)
gender;; male
occupation;; former Gotham District Attorney, now a rather notorious criminal.
sexualorienation;; heterosexual... at least, he wouldn't ever let it be anything else.
i'm torn between the light and dark
hair;; a very dark brown which looks black in most light...on the right. It's mostly straight and stays down alright without the necessity of hair products. On the left, however, his hair is a whiteish-grey, and rather more untameable.
eyes;; The right eye is a strong sharp blue; the left is a bloodshot red, with no functioning eyelid (having been mutilated by acid), and with rather impaired vision - as a result, he often finds it difficult to distinguish more than blurry shapes and colours with his left eye.
height;; 6"1' (according to DC wiki )
weight;; 182 lbs/83 kg (see above)
build;; One wouldn't exactly say Harvey was ripped, but he's definitely not a weakling. He's kept fit throughout his life and has got his fair share of muscle to help throw his weight around the place. It would be a good idea to be apprehensive about going up against the man, especially if he's fuelled by Two-Face's aggression and rage - he's a hard man to bring down.
piercings;; He did once get an ear pierced in the 80s, but since then hasn't worn anything in it.
tattoos;; None.
style;; As Harvey Dent, District Attorney, he didn't have much of a distinctive style. Suits and collared shirts and ties was the norm; it was safe and it was smart, and it suited the job. In the winter he'd maybe try a dorky sweater or two, what with Gilda always fussing about his limited range in fashion, but otherwise he didn't care to think much about it.
Since the acid...incident, he's acquired a rather interesting new style. In an attempt to combine both sides of his persona he often chooses to have suits custom-made with two vastly contrasting colours or textures on either side. The undisfigured side is usually granted a clean, white suit, whereas the other side may have anything from a normal sleek black tuxedo or a disturbingly unmatching plaid pattern. The effect is often jarring on the eyes, but this little mixture of chaos and order is exactly what Two-Face likes.
the whole collection
Let us note that the below is subject to change depending on the flip of a coin.
favorites;;
-CHANCE. Chance is fair. Chance is uncomprimising. Chance is everything that the legal system should be - yet isn't. Chance is what Harvey aspires to be, living his life without bias... Chance is almost revered by Harvey, and he's happy to let it guide his life.
-GUNS. He's fond of the quick, uncomplaining manner in which this category of weaponry works. At present he carries with him two .45 caliber pistols, and these guns are usually what Harvey employs in his fights before he even considers moving onto physical punching and kicking.
-CONTRAST. He likes contrast. It's so fascinating; one object accentuating the traits of the other object by being different.
-THE NUMBER 2. Three's a crowd.
-MONEY. Though as a lawyer Harvey was always more in it for the justice, he did always have a fondness for the high paycheck. Now that he's slightly more liberated, money is definitely something he likes, and he likes it a lot.
hates;;
-ARROGANCE. People who think they know better, or that their corrupted form of logic fares better than chance does.
-THE JOKER. He hates this man with a burning passion. The Joker always seems to take delight out of irritating Harvey, and Two-Face can't handle it very well.
-BATMAN. Though at one point he worked with Batman for a brief period, he now dislikes him for not being able to comprehend Harvey's lifestyle, and of course for always trying to throw him back into Arkham. But he does have a grudging respect for the man's attempts to serve justice in Gotham.
-BRUCE WAYNE. Once a close friend of Harv's, Two-Face now feels deep disappointment in his friend's inability to help him during the critical stage following the acid incident.
-NOT BEING IN CONTROL. Through perhaps slight hypocrisy, Harvey usually finds it difficult to accept that he's wrong, and will often struggle for dominance of a situation.
strengths;; good hand-to-hand fighting skills as well as good shooting skills, fairly high intelligence and understanding, independent nature, unpredictability.
weaknesses;; his temper, his reliance on his coin, dislike of working with others, stubbornness.
quirks/habits;; HIS COIN - he flips it to make big decisions, he often holds it in his fist as a source of comfort or compulsively checks to make sure it's still in his pocket.
Often tries to theme his life around the number 2 if it can be helped.
Prefers to flip his coin with the right hand but shoot with the left (unless he's using both guns).
goals/dreams;; -Reconcile with Gilda. He's not quite sure how he'll ever do it, and he's too afraid of hurting her to go near her these days, but it's there at the back of his mind somewhere.
-Children. This isn't a dream he often admits to himself, but somewhere in the back of his subconcious is a desire to have a son or daughter (twins would be nice) of his own... at least, that's what Harvey would like. Two-Face hates kids.
-Get rich. This one's pretty self explanatory.
-Find a way to appease both sides and keep both Harvey and Two-Face happy at the same time. This one is pretty impossible.
-Find his father and exact revenge/discover why he did what he did.
overall personality;;
There's no way to describe Harvey Dent without acknowledging Two-Face. Two personalities within the same body can mean an often crowded thought process. Though Two-Face is often dominant and Harvey tends to lay dormant, they do occasionally fight for control or even overlap or merge. Unlike the classical case of MPD, neither of the two experience time or memory loss, meaning that switching between who is running the body is usually not a difficult process, hence the appearance of a single unified person to an outsider.
Two-Face is a man of aggression and raw emotion. He gets things done. But at times he's a little too wild, and that's why he needs Harvey to reign him in, make sure he does nothing reckless. He's not an idiot, just a little blinded by his emotions. But he's so naturally dominant and unafraid of consequence that it's easy to let him take control.
Harvey is smart and logical. He's the one capable of working with others, the one capable of waiting until a better opportunity comes up. But he can't forget what he used to be and what he's become, and deep down though he knows he needs Two-Face and Two-Face needs him, he hates that bastard. Just a little bit. He's the one who wants Gilda back... but hasn't worked out how to do it yet. Normally he's fine with letting Two-Face handle the in and outs of daily life, but he does try and guide things a little, nudging here and there. It isn't often when he takes complete control, but when matters of great importance come along, that's exactly what he'll do.
Two-Face is the short-term planner. Harvey is the long-term planner. Neither wants to be shoved out in favour for the other; and neither can survive without one another.

history;; Harvey was born to Lucy and Christopher Dent, seemingly normal, caring parents. But no family was perfect, and the police officer father who fought for justice had a fondness for alcohol that he couldn't seem to help. A heavy alcoholic, he would temporarily change into a different man under the influence of drink, playing a 'game' with his young son which involved the flip of a coin. 50/50 chance. If it fell heads up Harvey would be beaten; if tails, not. Yet Harvey's father never thought to tell him that both sides of the coin were the same.
When Harvey was 13 and beginning to get some sort of independence, the abusive father left, disappearing as if he had never existed. He left a shaken family forced to pretend to the outside world that all was well.
Though otherwise a bright and pleasant child, Harvey battled with behavioural problems for several years as a result of the mix of abuse and love from his father. He was incorrectly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, until finally it was revealed that he had, in fact, Multiple Personality Disorder (also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder). This hidden darker personality had formed as a defensive measure against the abuse he'd experienced as a child, but no one had known of its existence until now, even Harvey himself.
Immediately, Harvey was put into therapy, but the requirements of a daily school life hampered the success of the therapy, and in the end only succeeded in surpressing the 'bad' personality, instead of reintegrating the two halves. But it lay dormant for years, leading everyone to believe it had completely disappeared.
Harv attended law school and graduated with flying colours, eventually becoming the youngest District Attorney in Gotham's history at the age of 26. Nicknamed Apollo, the shining "White Knight" of Gotham was subject to more than a few assasination attempts, including one by Pamela Isley under the facade of dating the young D.A.
After some time, Harvey met and fell in love with Gilda Gold, and eventually married her. It was during this time that the dangerous personality from his adolescence resurfaced, but he was able to restart the therapy he should have completed all those years ago. Soon after, he forged an alliance with the Batman and Captain James Gordon, working in a team to try and bring down the mysterious serial killer Holiday. But during the trial of Sal Maroni, he had sulphuric acid thrown at him by the crime boss, scarring the left side of his face and partially his left hand.
After running away from the hospital and, indeed, his marriage, Harvey Dent scarred one side of his father's coin of justice, and gave into that which had been surpressed for all those years.
And the rest, as they say, is history.

example;; an intro. plot was that scarecrow's girlfriend was pregnant and joker threw a baby shower. go figure. xD
Harvey could never understand how the Joker always managed to track down his current home. At present, it was a tattered, peeling dingy apartment that made him wish wistfully for the gleaming walls of his old D.A. office. But there was no chance of him being able to hide out anywhere but the Narrows, thanks to how easy it was for Gotham's public to identify him, and though he did not hide his hatred for the area and often found himself regretting that he had not persuaded the Mayor to clean the place up, he had no other choice.
But it had its advantages - such as how it was often all too easy to disappear and become untraceable...except, of course, for certain clown princes, who seemed to like the idea of thrusting envelopes under his door whilst he was asleep. The invitation had greeted him after he had awoken from a particularly nasty nightmare (he recalled it having something to do with Gilda dying before Two-Face had replaced it with his worries of being caught during a heist) and with dislike and curiousity mingling in his mind he had picked it up and opened it.
He was not wholly sure why he was now walking to the venue specified in the invitation, but somehow the unbiased force of luck had chosen for him to be amongst others, in what would likely turn out to be a near-torturous social event. Two-Face had torn up the invitation and thrown it in the trash pile, a corner mostly filled with broken bits of mirrors, and was now regarding the warehouse before him with wariness. The .45 Caliber pistol in his hand felt heavy and reassuring, but he was not entirely sure of the protection it offered him against a man who had mainly caused the ruining of his life in the start. It was often difficult for Two-Face to remember that he and the Joker were now on the same "side" against the Batman, but if it was one thing that consumed him more than his hatred for the Joker it was his hatred for that costumed fool. These days he reined in his emotions around the clown and accepted that it might very well result in a profitable result if they co-operated.
But he could not understand why he had been invited to the apparent baby shower (Crane had created a child? for a moment this filled Harvey with burning envy) for he was a friend of neither Joker or Scarecrow, though in a contest of which he preferred Crane always won out top. Was it some sick trick of the clown's? Very likely. Half of him (the Harvey half) was very curious about it. The other half was just infuriated that the coin had determined he would go.
Still, here he was, and there was no time to think about the reasons behind it. The doorway seemed to be missing a door, and so Harvey was able to step through quietly, not entirely certain what to make of the scene he saw before him.
"Joker?" he said, and he could not keep the guarded surprise out of his voice.
